Image watermark remover FAQ
Quick answers about privacy, quality, date stamps, file limits and legality.
How do I remove a watermark from an image for free?
Open the tool, upload your PNG, JPG or WebP, paint over the watermark with the brush or box tool, click Remove watermark and download the clean image. It is free, needs no account and runs in your browser, so there is no upload.
Can I remove a watermark from an image without uploading it?
Yes. The fill algorithm runs in your browser in a Web Worker, so your image file is never sent to a server. To check, open your browser developer tools, watch the Network tab while you process an image, and confirm no request carries your file.
What is an image watermark remover?
A tool that removes a watermark, logo, text or date stamp from an image. This one fills the area you paint using the pixels around it, so the result blends into the background.
How does the fill work?
It uses an onion-peel patch-matching algorithm with PatchMatch refinement. It looks at clean pixels around your selection, finds the best matching patch for each pixel, and blends the edges. It is image inpainting, not generative AI, so it cannot invent detail that was hidden behind the mark.
How do I remove a date stamp or timestamp from a photo?
Paint over the date and time with the brush or box tool, add a little Edge grow and click Remove watermark. Stamps over textured backgrounds usually fill cleanly. This removes the visible stamp only. Any date saved in the photo metadata is separate.
Can I remove text or a logo from an image?
Yes, from images you own or have permission to edit. Small text and logos over textured or simple backgrounds work best. Long text lines are easier in several small strokes.
Can I remove a watermark from a screenshot?
Yes, from your own screenshots. Cursors, badges, labels and stray marks on flat backgrounds usually fill cleanly. Screenshots of text-heavy pages are harder because the fill cannot recreate letters.
Why does the area look blurry or smeared after removal?
The tool fills the selection by blending nearby patches, so detailed backgrounds and large selections can look soft. Paint a smaller area, work in short strokes, run Remove several times, and compare with the original.
How is this different from AI watermark removers?
AI removers usually upload your image to a server and regenerate the hidden area, which often looks better on complex photos. This tool trades that for privacy and no limits: nothing is uploaded and there are no credits, but it can look soft on busy backgrounds and does not regenerate lost detail.
Will it work on any image?
It works best on small marks over clean, textured or patterned backgrounds. Marks over complex detail, like a face or fine text, may not blend perfectly. Tiled or full-frame watermarks are not a good fit.
What image formats and sizes are supported?
PNG, JPG and WebP for upload and download, up to 30 MB and 24 megapixels. For other formats such as HEIC or BMP, convert to JPG or PNG first. Very large selections are processed at reduced resolution around the mark, and the rest of your image stays at full quality.
Does removal reduce image quality?
Only the area you paint is changed, and the rest of the image stays at its original resolution. Choose PNG for a lossless export, or JPG and WebP with a higher quality setting if you need smaller files.
Can I undo a mistake?
Yes. Press Ctrl+Z or Undo stroke to undo a brush stroke, and Undo result to step back through up to 10 processed results. The eraser removes parts of your selection.
Is this tool free?
Yes. It is free with no daily cap, no credits, no sign-up and no watermark added to your output. The practical limit is your device memory, because the image is processed locally.
Is it safe? Does it upload my image?
It does not upload your image. Processing happens in your browser, so there is no server copy of your image to store, leak or delete later.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in modern mobile browsers with Canvas and Web Worker support. Large photos process faster on a laptop, and painting small marks is easier with a stylus or by zooming in.
Can I process several images at once?
Not at the moment. The tool handles one image at a time. Cloud tools that offer batch processing do so by uploading your files to their servers.
Can I remove a TikTok or Instagram watermark?
Only from images you own or have permission to edit, such as your own export with a platform logo on it. Stock photo watermarks protect licensed work, so get a licence instead of removing them.
Is it legal to remove a watermark?
It depends on who owns the image and why you remove the mark. Removing your own logo, or a mark on an image you have a licence to edit, is generally fine. Removing someone else's watermark to republish their work can infringe copyright and, in some countries, laws on removing copyright management information. Use this tool only on images you own or have permission to edit. This is general information, not legal advice.
Should I crop instead of removing the mark?
If the mark sits at the very edge of the picture, cropping is simplest and leaves no fill artefacts. Use the tool when cropping would cut out something you want to keep.
What this tool can and cannot remove
The tool fills the area you paint with matching patches from the pixels around it. That makes it fast, private and free, and it also sets clear limits. Check your mark against this table before you start.
| Mark type | Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Small logo in a corner | Works well | The best case. A small mark over a textured or simple background fills cleanly. |
| Date or time stamp | Works well | Paint the digits with a little Edge grow. Textured backgrounds like grass, walls and film grain blend best. |
| Text overlay or caption | Works, with caveats | Fine on plain backgrounds. Work in small strokes and run Remove more than once on long lines. |
| Large semi-transparent watermark | Mixed | The fill can leave a soft smear. Remove in several smaller passes and compare with the original. |
| Tiled or full-frame diagonal watermark | Not suited | There is too little clean surrounding detail to copy from. Use the original file without the mark if you have it. |
| Mark over a face, fine text or detailed pattern | Poor | A patch-based fill cannot invent detail that was hidden. Try smaller areas, or retouch by hand. |
Tips for a clean result
Paint just past the edges
Cover the mark and go a little beyond its edges. The Edge grow slider covers soft or anti-aliased borders.
Small strokes, several passes
On big or busy marks, work in small areas and run Remove more than once. Use Hold to compare after each pass.
Match the background
Textured or patterned backgrounds fill best, and smooth gradients and skies are easy too. Faces, text and fine detail are the hard cases.
Shrink huge files first
Very large photos process faster after a resize. Shrink them with the Image Compressor, or enlarge a clean result afterwards with the Image Upscaler.
Pick the right export
Export PNG for lossless quality, or JPG and WebP for smaller files.
Use the original if you can
If you made the image, re-export it without the mark. That always beats any removal tool.
ToolDeck vs cloud AI watermark removers
Cloud AI removers upload your image and regenerate the hidden area, which often looks better on complex photos. ToolDeck trades that for privacy and no limits: nothing is uploaded, and the download is free. Pick based on your image.

What you get for free
Smart patch-based fill
A background Web Worker runs a patch-based algorithm that fills the marked area from the surrounding pixels, so the page stays responsive. It is image inpainting by patch matching, not generative AI.
Brush, box and eraser
Use the brush for precise control, the box tool for quick rectangular selections, and the eraser to fix mistakes.
Fast brush resizing
Press [ or ] to resize the brush instantly, right on the canvas, with no menus.
Hold to compare
Hold the compare button to see the original under your edits and check the result.
Undo and history
Undo any brush stroke with Ctrl+Z, and step back through up to 10 processed results with Undo result.
Export PNG, JPG, WebP
Download your clean image in any of three formats with adjustable quality. Nothing is added to your file.
Use it on images you have the right to edit
Remove marks only from images you own or have permission to modify, such as your own branding, your own exports, or pictures you are licensed to edit. Removing someone else's watermark to republish their work can infringe copyright and may break other laws. You are responsible for how you use the result.
