Rates are the ECB reference rate published once per business day, delivered through the free currency-api mirror on jsDelivr. Your last successful fetch is cached in this browser so the tool keeps working offline. This is a reference tool, not a settlement price. Banks and card networks usually add a small spread on top of these rates.

How it works

  1. 1

    Enter an amount

Type any value, or tap one of the quick-amount chips (1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500, 1,000, 10,000). The result updates instantly - there is no submit button.

  2. 2

    Pick from and to currencies

The searchable picker covers 36 major currencies. Type a code (USD, PKR) or a name (Euro, Rupee) to filter. Swap directions with the round swap button.

  3. 3

Read the result, chart and rate

See the converted amount, the direct and inverse rate, and a 30-day chart of the pair with low, high and percentage change. Copy the result with one tap.

Everything you get for free

  • Live ECB reference rates

Rates come from the European Central Bank via frankfurter.app - the same reference rates banks and financial sites use. Updated once per business day, with the actual rate date shown so you know how fresh the numbers are.

  • 36 currencies, searchable

The picker covers every major global currency - USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CNY, INR, AED, SAR, TRY, ZAR and many more. Type to filter by code or name; unsupported pairs are clearly marked instead of failing silently.

  • 30-day rate chart

See how the pair has moved over the last month, with the low and high clearly marked. The percentage change between the first and last data point is highlighted - useful for spotting whether a rate is trending up or down before you commit to a transfer.

  • Quick-amount chips

One tap to convert 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500, 1,000 or 10,000 units. Faster than typing, especially on mobile. Every chip updates the result instantly - no submit button.

  • Recent conversions

The last six conversions you made are saved in your browser (localStorage only). Tap any of them to reload the exact amount and pair - useful when you are checking the same transfer repeatedly.

  • Offline fallback

If the rates API is unreachable, the tool falls back to the most recent cached rates on your device and clearly labels the page as offline. No blank screen - you still get a working conversion with a clear warning.

  • Copy the whole result

One tap copies a formatted line like "100 USD = 27,835.00 PKR (1 USD = 278.3500 PKR)" - ready to paste into a message, a spreadsheet, or an invoice. Includes both the direct rate and the inverse.

  • No account, no API key

The tool calls a free public API (frankfurter.app) directly from your browser. There is no proxy, no account, no key, no cookie, no tracking. Your amounts stay on your device - nothing is logged on our side.

What people use it for

  • Check a transfer before sending

Before wiring money abroad or topping up a foreign account, see exactly what the rate is right now and what your amount converts to. Compare against what your bank quotes - the gap is the hidden fee.

  • Price an international product

Buying from a foreign store? Convert the price to your currency before checkout - including the fixed shipping fee if it is in the seller's currency.

  • Freelance and remote work

Convert invoice amounts from your client's currency to yours. Check the 30-day chart to see if waiting a few days would meaningfully change what you receive.

  • Travel budget planning

Turn your home-currency budget into the destination's currency so you know how much cash to carry. The quick-amount chips make it easy to estimate meal, taxi and hotel costs on the spot.

  • Tracking a rate over time

The 30-day chart shows you whether the pair is trending up or down. If you are waiting for a favourable rate - for a house purchase, a tuition payment, or a large transfer - you can see how today compares to the last month.

  • Budgeting for overseas students

Students paying tuition and living costs abroad use the tool to figure out how much in home currency a monthly allowance actually costs, and to spot the cheapest weeks to transfer.

Questions people ask

How do I use this currency converter?

Type the amount you want to convert, pick the "from" currency and the "to" currency, and the result appears instantly. There is no submit button - every keystroke recalculates. You can also tap one of the quick-amount chips (1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500, 1,000, 10,000) to set the amount in one click, or swap the two currencies with the round button between the pickers.

Where do the exchange rates come from?

Rates come from the European Central Bank via frankfurter.app - a free public API that republishes the ECB reference rates. These are the same rates banks and financial sites use as a baseline, updated once per business day. The tool shows the exact rate date on the screen so you always know how fresh the numbers are.

Are these the same rates I will get from my bank?

Not exactly. The rates here are interbank reference rates - the raw market rate before any markup. Banks and money-transfer services add a spread (typically 1-4% on top of the reference rate) plus sometimes a fixed fee. Use this tool to see what the "true" rate is, then compare with what your bank quotes to see the real cost of the transfer.

How often are the rates updated?

The ECB publishes reference rates once per business day, around 16:00 CET. The tool fetches the latest set when you open the page and shows the exact date. You can also click Refresh rates to re-fetch manually. Real-time intraday rates are a different product and require a paid feed - this tool gives you the same daily reference rates that appear on official financial sites.

Why are some currencies marked "No rate"?

frankfurter.app republishes ECB reference rates. The ECB covers roughly 30 currencies - the major global ones plus most European currencies. A small number of currencies shown in our picker (PKR, BDT, NGN, KES, EGP) are not in the ECB list, so we mark them clearly rather than showing a wrong number. If you need one of these, a commercial API or your bank's own page will be the accurate source.

Is my conversion logged anywhere?

No. The rate fetch is the only network request - the amount you type, the pair you pick, and the converted value all stay in your browser. Your recent conversions list is stored in localStorage on your device only and never sent anywhere. There is no account, no cookie, no tracking.

What is the 30-day chart showing?

It plots the daily reference rate for the selected pair over the last 30 calendar days. The low and high are marked, and the percentage change between the first and last data point is shown in the header. It is not a live tick chart - each point is one business day's ECB rate. Useful for judging whether a rate is trending in your favour.

Can I use it offline?

Yes, with limitations. The first time you open the page while online, the rates are cached on your device. If you later open the tool with no internet, it will show the cached rates and label the page "Offline". Historical charts will not load offline. The conversion math works either way.

Does it handle very large or very small amounts?

Yes. Type any amount, including decimals and large numbers. The result is formatted with thousands separators and the correct decimal precision for the currency (0 decimals for JPY and KRW, 2 for most others). If you are converting millions, use the 1,000 or 10,000 chips and multiply, or just type the full number.

How accurate are the conversions?

The math is exact - result = amount × (rate_to / rate_from), using the ECB cross-rate. The only source of variance is the rate itself: since rates are published once per business day, the number you see is yesterday's or today's official close, not the live mid-market rate at this exact second. For a rough estimate this is more than enough; for a large transfer, check your bank's own quote.

Is it free, and can I use it at work?

Completely free for personal and commercial use. No sign-up, no email, no ads blocking the input, no daily limit. Everything runs in your browser and the rates come from a free public API. It is safe to use on a work laptop with confidential data open - nothing from this page touches your other tabs.

Which currencies are supported?

The picker shows 36 currencies: USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CNY, AUD, CAD, CHF, INR, PKR, BDT, AED, SAR, TRY, RUB, BRL, MXN, ZAR, SGD, HKD, KRW, THB, MYR, IDR, PHP, NZD, SEK, NOK, DKK, PLN, CZK, HUF, ILS, EGP, NGN, KES. Actual live rates are available for the ~30 covered by the European Central Bank; the rest are marked clearly in the picker.

Where the data goes

The only network request is a fetch to api.frankfurter.app for the latest rates. Your amount, your currency pair and your conversion history stay in your browser - nothing is sent to us or logged anywhere. Read how we keep it private.
