How it works

  1. 1

    Enter a timestamp

Paste a Unix timestamp to instantly see the local date, UTC time, and relative time (e.g., "3 hours ago").

  2. 2

    Pick a date

Select any date and time from the picker to instantly generate the Unix timestamp in both seconds and milliseconds.

  3. 3

    Copy the result

Click copy to grab the exact format you need for your database or API payload.

Everything you get for free

  • Auto-Detection

Confused about whether your timestamp is in seconds or milliseconds? The tool automatically detects the format based on the magnitude of the number.

  • Live Current Time

See the live, ticking Unix timestamp at the top of the page. Perfect for quickly grabbing the current time for a test.

  • 100% Secure

Timestamps are processed entirely in your browser. No network requests are made, ensuring your data remains private.

  • Multiple Formats

We output the date in Local Time, UTC, ISO 8601, and Relative Time (e.g., "2 days ago") so you have exactly what you need.

  • Timezone Aware

The "Date to Timestamp" converter uses your system's local timezone, ensuring accurate conversions based on where you are.

  • Clean Interface

No popups, no ads, and a dark mode that is easy on the eyes during late-night debugging sessions.

What people use it for

  • Database Queries

Convert a Unix timestamp from a SQL query into a human-readable date to understand when a user signed up.

  • API Testing

Generate timestamps to use as parameters in your API requests for date ranges and filters.

  • Log Analysis

Translate timestamps from server logs or error traces into local time to correlate events.

  • JWT Debugging

Decode the `iat` (issued at) and `exp` (expiration) timestamps in a JSON Web Token to see exact dates.

  • Cron Jobs

Verify when your next scheduled cron job will run by converting the calculated timestamp.

  • Learning Unix Time

Understand how Unix time works by converting between dates and seconds visually.

Questions people ask

What is a Unix timestamp?

It is the number of seconds that have elapsed since January 1, 1970, at 00:00:00 UTC. It is widely used in programming because it represents a single, unambiguous point in time.

How does auto-detection work?

Current Unix timestamps in seconds are 10 digits (e.g., 1700000000). In milliseconds, they are 13 digits (e.g., 1700000000000). If the number is larger than 10,000,000,000, we treat it as milliseconds.

Does it account for timezones?

Yes. When converting a date to a timestamp, it uses your browser's local timezone. When converting a timestamp to a date, it shows both your Local Time and UTC.

Is my data sent to a server?

No. All conversions are done in your browser using native JavaScript `Date` objects. Nothing is uploaded.

What is ISO 8601?

It is an international standard for date and time formatting, like `2026-10-20T14:30:00.000Z`. It is the most common format used in JSON APIs.

Why is the Year 2038 a problem?

32-bit systems store Unix timestamps as signed integers, which will overflow on January 19, 2038. Our tool uses modern 64-bit JavaScript numbers, so it won't have this issue.

Can I convert a timestamp in the future?

Yes. The tool can handle any timestamp up to the year 275760 (the maximum valid JavaScript Date).

Can I use this offline?

Yes. Once the page is loaded, the converter works completely offline.
