Text and subtitle remover FAQ
Quick answers about privacy, quality, supported text types, file limits and legality.
How do I remove text from a video for free?
Open the tool, choose your video, draw a box over the text or subtitles, click Remove and download the result. It is free, needs no account and runs in your browser.
Can I remove hardcoded subtitles from a video?
Yes, if they stay in the same place. Draw the box over the subtitle area. If the subtitles change position or size dynamically, the tool cannot follow them.
What is a Text Remover?
A tool that removes a text overlay, subtitle or caption from a video file. This one uses FFmpeg's delogo filter, which replaces the selected area using the pixels around it.
How does the delogo filter work?
You mark a rectangle. For every frame, the filter blends the pixels around the rectangle inward to cover the text. It is a classic, fast filter that works best on small, static marks.
Can I remove captions from a video without uploading it?
Yes. The video is processed by FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, running inside your browser tab. The file never leaves your device.
Will it remove moving text or end credits?
No. The tool applies one fixed box to the whole video. If the text moves, it will stay visible where it moves to, and the box area will show a blur in the original position.
Why does the area look blurry after removal?
Because the filter fills the box by blending nearby pixels. Blur shows most on detailed backgrounds and with large boxes. Draw the box as tight as possible.
Is it legal to remove text from a video?
Use this tool only on videos you own or have permission to edit. Removing text from someone else's work to republish it can infringe copyright. You are responsible for how you use the result.
Does it keep the audio?
Yes. The audio track is copied from the original video without re-encoding.
What video formats are supported?
MP4, WebM and MOV. For other formats such as AVI or MKV, convert to MP4 first. The output is an MP4 (H.264).
What this tool can and cannot remove
The tool uses FFmpeg's delogo filter. It fills one fixed rectangle using the pixels around it. That makes it fast, private and free, and it also sets clear limits. Check your text against this table before you start.
| Text type | Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Static text overlay | Works well | The best case. Text that stays in one place is cleaned convincingly on most footage. |
| Burned-in subtitles | Works, with caveats | Fine on plain backgrounds. On detailed backgrounds, the patch can look soft or blurry. |
| Small captions | Usually works | Draw the box tight around it. Large blocks of text leave a visible smear. |
| Moving or scrolling text | Not supported | The filter fixes one box position for the whole video. Credits that roll or text that moves will not be removed. |
| Text over a face or fine detail | Poor | There is not enough surrounding detail to fill in convincingly. |
Tips for a cleaner result
Keep the box tight
A box that is only slightly larger than the text gives the cleanest fill. A big box turns into a visible blur.
Trim first
Cut the clip to the part you need with the Video Trimmer, and shrink big files with the Video Compressor.
Check on a busy frame
Scrub to a frame with detailed background behind the text before you commit. If it looks soft there, it will look soft everywhere.
Use the original if you can
If you made the video, re-export it from your editor without the text. That always beats any removal filter.
ToolDeck vs cloud text removers
Cloud AI tools upload your video, track moving text and regenerate the hidden area. ToolDeck trades that for privacy and no limits: nothing is uploaded, and the full download is free.
| Feature | TToolDeck | Cloud AI removers |
|---|---|---|
| Your video is uploaded to a server | None | Yes, deleted after processing |
| Free full-length download | Yes | Free preview of the first 5 seconds |
| No sign-up needed | Yes | Yes |
| No daily usage limits | Yes | Varies by plan |
| Moving or drifting text | No | Yes |
| Complex or busy backgrounds | Can look blurry | Yes |
What you get for free
FFmpeg in your browser
WebAssembly-powered FFmpeg processes the video on your device. No server queue and no upload.
Box over text
Click and drag to draw a box around the subtitles or text overlay. Works for fixed captions, credits, and labels.
Edge-based fill

No preview limit
Download the full video, not a 5-second preview. No credits, no account and no daily cap.
No software install
Works in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS.
Use it on content you have the right to edit
Remove text only from videos you own or have permission to modify, such as your own branding, your own exports, or footage you are licensed to edit. You are responsible for how you use the result.
