How it works
- 1
Drop your video
Drag or click to choose. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored. Max 500 MB and 10 minutes.
- 2
Pick quality or target size
Choose a preset (Light to Extreme) or set an exact target like 10 MB. Trim, downscale, choose format.
- 3
Download compressed video
Real-time progress bar shows the compression percentage. Get your MP4 or WebM. No watermark.
Everything you get for free
Two modes: quality or target size
Compress by quality (Light/Balanced/Strong/Extreme) or set an exact target like 10 MB, 16 MB or 25 MB for WhatsApp, Discord, Slack or email. Competitors only do one.
Two-pass encoding for the smallest file
Two-pass analyzes the video first, then distributes the bitrate where it matters. The result is 15-25% smaller than single-pass at the same visual quality. Almost no free tool offers this.
100% secure, nothing uploaded
Decoding and re-encoding happen in your browser with ffmpeg.wasm. Private footage, client work and family videos never leave your device.
WebM (VP9): 30-40% smaller than MP4
For web videos, VP9 usually beats H.264 by 30-40% at the same quality. We generate it natively. Not many free tools do.
Trim, resolution and audio control
Cut the video shorter, downscale to 1080p/720p/480p/360p, and pick the audio bitrate. All the settings professionals use, in one panel.
Live estimated output size
The tool shows the estimated MB and compression percentage as you change settings. No more processing just to see the result was too big.
No sign-up, no email, no watermark
Open, drop the video, choose settings, download. No account, no confirmation email, no watermarks or branded corner stamp on the output.
Safe hard limits
Up to 500 MB and 10 minutes per job. Plenty for most content, with live warnings if you go over. The tool auto-adjusts suggestions to keep browsers stable.
What people use it for
Send video on WhatsApp
WhatsApp caps at 16 MB. Set target size to 16 MB (or smaller) and the video sends without the quality-drop WhatsApp applies.
Discord upload (8 MB cap)
Discord free has an 8 MB limit. Target 8 MB and the file uploads on the first try.
Email attachments (25 MB cap)
Gmail caps at 25 MB. Target 24 MB and the video goes through without Drive links.
Smaller files for archiving
Save 70-90% on old footage by re-encoding at a lower bitrate. Perfect for cloud backup and phone storage.
Web video for landing pages
Pick WebM (VP9) for 30-40% smaller files than MP4 at the same quality. Browsers play it natively. No plugin needed.
Pre-compress before uploading
YouTube, Instagram and Vimeo re-encode anything you upload. Pre-compressing to a smaller file means faster uploads, same final quality.
Questions people ask
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser using ffmpeg.wasm. Your video never leaves your device. We cannot see it even if we wanted to.
Is it really 100% secure?
Yes. There is no upload step, no server processing, no temporary storage. Open your browser network tab while you use the tool. You will not see your video being sent anywhere.
What is the difference between quality and target size mode?
Quality mode compresses at a fixed level of visual quality. Smaller files but no guarantee of a specific size. Target size mode guarantees a specific MB by calculating the right bitrate. Use quality mode when you just want it smaller. Use target size mode when you have a hard cap like WhatsApp or Discord.
What is two-pass encoding?
Two-pass makes two runs: the first analyzes the video to find where motion and detail are, the second distributes the bitrate where it matters. The result is 15-25% smaller than single-pass at the same quality. It takes about 2× the time.
Why is WebM an option?
WebM (VP9) is typically 30-40% smaller than MP4 (H.264) at the same quality. It plays in every modern browser, but not in Safari on older iOS devices. Pick WebM for web videos, MP4 for universal compatibility.
What is the maximum file size?
500 MB and up to 10 minutes per job. That covers most phone recordings, tutorials and short films. For anything longer, trim it first with our Video Trimmer tool.
Which preset should I choose?
Balanced is the sweet spot for most videos. 50-70% smaller with no visible quality loss. Light is for when quality matters most. Strong and Extreme are for when file size is critical and some quality loss is acceptable.
What video formats work?
MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, M4V, OGV, AVI, FLV, WMV and anything your browser can decode. MP4 is the safest input.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android both work. Mobile processes slower. Trim the clip shorter on phones for the best experience.
Does it work offline?
After the first use the engine is cached. After that, you can switch off WiFi and compress locally.
Can I compress multiple videos at once?
Not in this version. One video at a time. Batch mode is on our roadmap.
Will compression remove audio?
No, audio is kept by default and re-encoded as AAC. You can turn it off to save more size, or adjust the audio bitrate.
100% secure, nothing stored
Decoding and re-encoding both happen in your browser. There is no upload step, no temporary server-side storage, no queue, no retention. Open your browser network tab while you use the tool. You will not see your video being sent anywhere. See why ToolDeck is different.
