⚠️ Performance Warning
- If you don't have a graphics card (GPU), rendering will be slow. A GPU finishes short clips in seconds, a CPU can take several minutes.
- Please upload large files (close to 300 MB) one by one or in very small batches.
- Do not upscale 4K resolution for all 10 files at once. Please try batches of 2 to 5 files for 4K.
- Processing speed depends heavily on your GPU, CPU, and system memory.
- Mobile devices will be significantly slower than laptops and desktop PCs.
- 100% Secure

How do I upscale a video to 1080p for free?
Drop your video into the tool above, keep the 1080p target, click Start Upscale and download the 1920x1080 MP4. It runs on your own device, so nothing is uploaded and no watermark is added. It sharpens what is already in your video and cannot recover detail that was never recorded, so 540p and 720p sources give the best results. 1080p is also the lightest Full HD target, so it works well even on devices without a graphics card.

What each resolution becomes at 1080p
1080p means 1920x1080, so the short side of the frame is set to 1080 px and your aspect ratio is kept. The 2x steps look best, and the bigger the jump, the more the result depends on how clean the source is.
| Your video | Scale to 1080p | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| 360p (640x360) | 3x | A big jump. Cleaner edges, but little real detail. Factor 3x or Resolution mode both work. |
| 480p (854x480) | 2.25x | Works, with limited detail. Use Resolution mode, because Factor mode has no 2.25x. |
| 540p (960x540) | 2x | The best case. A clean 2x step gives the most natural result. |
| 720p (1280x720) | 1.5x | The most common upgrade. Use Resolution mode, because Factor mode has no 1.5x. |
| 1080p and above | 1x | Already Full HD or bigger. The tool never shrinks video in this mode. |

How to upscale a video to 1080p in 3 steps
- 1
Drop your video
Choose up to 10 files, or drag them onto the tool. They open in your browser and are never uploaded.
- 2
Keep the 1080p target
The 1080p (1920x1080) target is already selected. Pick Fast, Balanced or Best quality if you are on the CPU engine.
- 3
Upscale and download
Click Start Upscale, wait for the progress bar, then download the Full HD MP4. Several files come as one ZIP.
Which quality setting should I pick?
The presets apply to the CPU engines. When your GPU is used, the AI pass runs at its own fixed quality, so you can leave the setting alone.
Fast
Quickest. Softer edges. Best on CPU-only devices and for long clips.
Balanced
Bicubic scaling. A good middle ground between time and sharpness.
Best
Lanczos scaling, the sharpest and the slowest. Use it for short, important clips.
What 1080p upscaling can and cannot do
An honest look so you know what to expect. Trim long clips first with the Video Trimmer, and shrink the result afterwards with the Video Compressor.
What works well
- Turn 360p, 480p, 540p or 720p footage into a true 1920x1080 file
- Sharpen soft edges and lines compared with plain resizing
- Handle vertical video: the short side is set to 1080 px, so 720x1280 becomes 1080x1920
- Keep your audio on MP4 output and upscale up to 10 videos in one batch
What to keep in mind
- Add detail that was never recorded, so a blurry 360p clip becomes a larger blurry clip
- Fix noise, shake or bad lighting by itself, since it only resizes and sharpens
- Process files over 300 MB or 3 minutes, or live streams
- Run as fast without WebGPU: devices without it use the CPU engine and take longer
ToolDeck vs desktop and cloud 1080p upscalers
A general comparison by type of tool. Desktop apps and some cloud models can add generated detail, but they need an install or an upload. Exact features vary by product.

Upscale video to 1080p: questions people ask
Quick answers about 720p and 480p sources, aspect ratio, speed, file size and limits.
How do I upscale a video to 1080p for free?
Open the tool above, drop your video, keep the 1080p target and click Start Upscale. The video is processed in your browser, so there is no upload, no sign-up and no watermark. When it finishes, download the 1080p MP4.
Does a 2x upscale turn 720p into 1080p?
No. 2x turns 720p (1280x720) into 1440p (2560x1440). To reach 1080p you need 1.5x. Use Resolution mode and choose 1080p, and the tool works out the right scale for you.
Can I convert 720p to 1080p without losing quality?
You will not lose quality, but you cannot gain real detail either. 720p to 1080p is a 1.5x enlargement with sharper edges. On clean footage, animation and screen recordings it looks noticeably better than a plain resize.
Can I upscale 480p to 1080p?
Yes. 854x480 needs about 2.25x to reach 1920x1080. Expect cleaner edges and a bigger picture, but not true HD sharpness. Use Resolution mode, since Factor mode only offers 1x, 2x, 3x and 4x.
Can I upscale 360p to 1080p?
Yes, as a 3x step. The result is larger and smoother, but a 360p source has very little detail to work with, so do not expect a crisp picture.
What happens with 4:3 video?
The aspect ratio is kept. A 640x480 clip becomes 1440x1080, not 1920x1080, so you will not get stretched or cropped video. If you need a 16:9 canvas, add bars in your editor afterwards.
What if my video is already 1080p?
Nothing is scaled down. A 1080p source stays 1080p, and a bigger source keeps its size. If you want more pixels, use the 4K page.
Is 1080p the same as Full HD?
Yes. 1080p, Full HD and FHD all mean 1920x1080 pixels in a 16:9 frame.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The video is decoded, upscaled and re-encoded in your browser. Open your browser Network tab while it runs and you will see that no request carries your file.
Why choose 1080p instead of 4K?
It is much lighter. A 1080p frame has a quarter of the pixels of a 4K frame, so processing is faster, uses less memory and creates a far smaller file. It is the practical target for CPU-only devices, phones and long clips.
Will the output be bigger than my original?
Not always. Output usually runs at roughly 4 to 8 Mbps. If your original used a higher bitrate, the 1080p file can even be smaller. Use the Video Compressor if you need to shrink it further.
How long does it take?
On a device with WebGPU a short clip usually finishes in seconds to a couple of minutes. Without WebGPU the tool uses the CPU, which is slower but works. Close other tabs, and use Fast quality for long clips.
Does it keep the audio?
Yes for MP4 output, and you can switch it off with Keep audio. On the fast engines, audio is re-attached afterwards, and for files over 150 MB it may be skipped, in which case the tool shows a note.
What are the file limits?
Up to 300 MB and 3 minutes per file, and up to 10 files per batch. Use the Video Trimmer if a clip is too long.
Do I need a graphics card?
No, but it helps. The page detects WebGPU automatically and uses your GPU when it can. If WebGPU is not available, or the GPU pass fails, it switches to a CPU engine and keeps going.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
It can in modern mobile browsers, and 1080p is the most realistic target on a phone. Keep clips short, and use a laptop or desktop for anything long.
