What is the ToolDeck add music to video editor?
ToolDeck Add Music to Video is a free, browser-based audio editor for video. It has two independent audio tracks with per-clip volume and fade, voiceover recording, beat detection and beat markers, plus a mute and detach control for the original video audio. It uses WebCodecs and WebAssembly to mix and render locally, so your files never leave your device. No account, no watermark, MP4 export up to 4K at 60 fps.
It is best for YouTube tutorials, wedding films, podcast clips, product demos and social media shorts. It does not include a stock music library — you bring your own licensed music — and it does not do full audio mastering.
How to add music to a video in 3 steps
- 1
Import your video and music
Drop your video onto the main track and your music file (MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG) onto one of the audio tracks. Files open in your browser and are not uploaded.
- 2
Trim, fade and set the mix
Trim the music to the length you need, add a volume fade in and out, and lower the music under any dialogue. Record a voiceover on the second audio track if you want narration.
- 3
Export the mixed MP4
Choose resolution, frame rate and GPU or CPU, then render. Download the MP4 with the music baked in and no watermark, or export the audio mix as a WAV.
A proper music mix, free
Two independent audio tracks
Add music on one audio track and a voiceover or sound effect on the other. Each track has its own volume, fade and mute controls, so the voice stays above the music at all times.
Volume fade in and out
Fade the music in at the start of the clip and out at the end. Ducking under a voiceover is done by lowering the music volume while the voice plays, without splitting anything.
Record a voiceover
Press Record in the Audio tab and speak over your video. Playback starts so you can time the narration to the footage. The take is added to the audio track and your browser asks for microphone permission.
Beat detection and beat markers
Drop a music track on the audio track and press Detect Beats. Markers appear on the timeline on every beat. Snap cuts, text and transitions to the markers so every edit lands on the rhythm.
Per-clip audio controls
Mute, detach or fade the original audio of any video clip. Detach the audio to move it independently, or mute it and let the music carry the track.
Any aspect ratio for any platform
16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 and more. The same music mix works on any canvas, from YouTube tutorials to TikTok shorts.
GPU or CPU rendering
The WebCodecs engine encodes video and audio together, using your graphics card when you have one and your CPU when you do not. Audio mixdown is done in the browser, not a server.
MP4, no watermark
Export the edited MP4 with the music mix baked in, up to 4K at 60 fps. No watermark, no credits, no sign-up. The audio mix can also be exported as a WAV.
What you can make with video music
YouTube tutorials and vlogs
Add a light background track under the voice, fade it in and out, and record a voiceover if the original audio is quiet.
TikTok and Reels with trending sounds
Import the audio from your trending sound and sync cuts and text pop-ins to the beat using markers.
Wedding and event films
Layer a soft instrumental track under the vows and a bigger song for the montage. Fade between them.
Podcast clips and audiograms
Combine the main interview audio with a subtle background track, and keep the voice dominant with ducking.
Product demo videos
Add an upbeat background track under the demo, plus sound effects for transitions and clicks.
Course and lecture videos
Add music only to the intro and outro, and mute everything else so the lecture is clean.

Free, watermark and sign-up
How do I add music to a video for free?
Drop your video on the timeline and your music file on one of the audio tracks. Trim the music, add a volume fade in and out, lower it under any dialogue, then press Export. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded, there is no watermark and no account is needed.
Is it really free, with no watermark?
Yes. No credits, no daily caps, no watermark, no sign-up. The only limits come from your device: memory, processor speed and a 1 GB per-file cap.
Do I need an account?
No. Open the page, drop in your video and music, and export.
Music and audio editing
Can I add more than one music track?
Yes. Two independent audio tracks are available, so you can use one for background music and one for a voiceover, sound effect, or a second song. Each track has its own volume and fades.
Can I fade the music in and out?
Yes. Each audio clip has its own fade in and fade out controls. Set the duration in seconds and the music eases in and out at the clip’s edges.
How do I lower the music under dialogue?
Lower the music clip’s volume to taste while the voice plays. If you want the music volume to change over time, split the music clip at the point where the voice begins and set a different volume on each side, with a short fade between them.
Can I record a voiceover?
Yes. Press Record in the Audio tab. Playback starts and the take is added to the audio track. Your browser asks for microphone permission first.
How do I make cuts land on the beat?
Drop the music on the audio track and press Detect Beats. Markers appear on the timeline on every beat. Snap cuts, text pop-ins and transitions to the markers so the edit follows the rhythm.
Can I mute the original audio of the video?
Yes. Mute the video clip’s audio, or detach it and move the audio independently. That is useful when the source audio is noisy or you want the music to carry the whole track.
Music library and copyright
Does it include a music library?
No. ToolDeck does not include stock music. You import your own MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG files. This keeps the export royalty-free for you, and it means you keep control of the licence.
Where can I get music I can use legally?
Use royalty-free libraries, your own music, or music from platforms that license it for use on the target platform. Only use music you have rights to. This is general information, not legal advice.
Can I use music from YouTube or Spotify?
Ripping and re-uploading commercial music from YouTube, Spotify or similar services usually infringes copyright and can get videos blocked or taken down. Use royalty-free, licensed or original music instead.
Quality, formats and export
What audio formats can I import?
MP3, WAV, M4A and OGG are supported. Other formats play if the browser can decode them, but those four are the reliable ones.
Will the music be baked into the exported MP4?
Yes. The mix of video audio and both audio tracks is rendered into a single AAC stereo track in the MP4, so the file plays with the music everywhere.
Can I export the audio mix separately?
Yes. Export the WAV audio mix if you want to master it in an audio editor or use it in another project.
What resolution can I export?
Up to 4K at 60 fps if your device has enough memory and processing power. For social, 1080p is faster and plenty sharp.
Why is my export silent?
Check that every audio clip is unmuted, the track volume is not at zero, and the source file actually has sound. If the source video was muted and the music track was also muted, the export will be silent.
Privacy and devices
Does it upload my music or video?
No. Music mixing and rendering happen in your browser. Open the Network tab in your browser developer tools and export to verify nothing is uploaded.
Which browser works best?
Chrome and Edge on desktop for the fastest preview and export. Firefox works with the compatibility engine. Safari has limited support for some audio effects.
Does it work on mobile?
The editor loads on mobile, but layout and performance are built for desktop. For serious music mixing use Chrome or Edge on a computer.
Legal and responsible use
Can I use exported videos commercially?
ToolDeck claims no rights over your exports. Commercial use depends on the rights to the footage, music and images inside the video. Make sure the music licence allows commercial use.
What this editor does well, and where it is limited
Everything runs on your own computer, so results depend on your browser, memory and graphics card.
| Project type | Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Adding a background track under a voice | Works well | Lower the music volume and fade in and out. Ducking the music under dialogue is easy with per-clip volume. |
| Recording a voiceover | Works well | Microphone permission is asked once. Preview is real-time so you can time the narration. |
| Beat-synced edits to music | Works well | Detect Beats adds markers on the rhythm. Snap cuts and text to markers. |
| Extremely loud or clipped source audio | Needs fixing | The editor has volume but not full mastering. Fix clipped audio in an audio editor first, then import. |
| Dolby or 5.1 audio | Not supported | The mix is stereo. Downmix to stereo before importing. |
| Extremely long music files | Works, memory heavy | A 3-hour podcast on one track is fine; several very long music files plus a 4K video strain memory. |
| Preview on Safari | Limited | Some audio effects and pitch-preserved previews vary. Use Chrome or Edge on desktop. |
Tips for a cleaner music mix
Keep the music at least 15 dB under the voice
Too loud and the dialogue is lost. Lower the music volume and listen on headphones before exporting.
Fade the music, not the voice
Fade the music in and out, leave the voice at full volume. Abrupt music starts sound amateur; abrupt voice cuts do not.
Detect beats before cutting
If the cuts should follow the rhythm, add the music first, run Detect Beats, then trim the video to snap onto the markers.
Export the audio mix as WAV
If you want to master the mix later, export the WAV and recombine it in an audio editor.
ToolDeck vs cloud music video editors
Cloud editors upload your files and often watermark free exports. ToolDeck mixes in your browser, adds no watermark, and never sends your music anywhere.

Use music you have the right to use
Only add music that you own, created yourself, or licensed for the platform where you will publish. Ripping commercial music from YouTube, Spotify or similar services usually infringes copyright and can get videos blocked or taken down. You are responsible for how you use the result.
