What is the ToolDeck video speed changer?
ToolDeck Video Speed Changer is a free, browser-based tool that changes the playback speed of any clip from 0.25x to 4x, with pitch-preserved audio, freeze frames and speed ramps between clips. It uses WebCodecs and WebAssembly to respeed and render locally, so your files never leave your device. No account, no watermark, MP4 export up to 4K at 60 fps.
It is best for slow-motion sports, cooking timelapses, dramatic reveals, tutorials and comedic timing. It cannot create frames that were never captured, so for the smoothest slow motion shoot at 60 or 120 fps.
How to change video speed in 3 steps
- 1
Import your clip
Drop your video on the timeline. Files open in your browser and are not uploaded.
- 2
Set the speed
Select the clip, open the Speed control in the Style tab and choose any value from 0.25x to 4x. Use Freeze frame to hold a single frame, or add a second clip and set a different speed to build a ramp.
- 3
Export the respeeded MP4
Choose resolution, frame rate and GPU or CPU, then render. Download a clean MP4 with the new speed and no watermark.
Professional speed control, free
Speed 0.25x to 4x
Set any speed from 0.25x to 4x per clip. Slow motion at 0.25x for dramatic shots, 0.5x for cinematic motion, 2x for tutorials, 4x for timelapses.
Speed ramps between clips
Ramp up into a cut and back down after it. Speed ramps between clips feel cinematic and add energy to fitness, dance and product videos without any keyframe learning curve.
Freeze frame
Hold any frame in place for a chosen duration. Great for comedic pauses, meme moments, product reveals and title cards.
Detach audio from speed change
When you speed up a talking clip the voice becomes a chipmunk. Detach the audio and keep it at normal pitch, or mute it and add music instead.
Preserve pitch option
Toggle pitch preservation on the audio track so a slowed-down voice still sounds human, not deep and warped. Automatic for normal speed changes.
Any ratio and format
Speed change works on any aspect ratio and any imported format: 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, MP4, WebM, MOV. No re-editing after the change.
Multi-track with music sync
Two audio tracks, a text track and an overlay track let you change speed on one clip without disturbing the rest of the timeline or your music sync.
MP4, no watermark
Export the respeeded MP4 up to 4K at 60 fps. No watermark, no credits, no sign-up. Everything renders on your GPU or CPU.
What you can make with the speed changer
Sports and fitness slow motion
Slow a jump, a lift or a sprint down to 0.25x so technique is visible. Speed back up to 1x before the next rep.
Cooking and DIY timelapses
Speed up long prep shots to 4x and keep the finished dish at 1x. Viewers see the whole recipe without waiting.
Dramatic product reveals
Slow motion, then a freeze frame, then a fast cut to the CTA. Classic ad pacing built in the editor in three clips.
Tutorial and course pacing
Speed up the boring parts (typing, scrolling, waiting) and slow down the critical steps. Keeps attention without cutting information.
Comedy and meme clips
Slow a reaction, freeze it, then speed up the payoff. Timing jokes with speed control is the fastest way to add humor.
Dance and music videos
Speed ramp on the beat with beat markers. Slow the body roll, snap back to normal on the drop.

Free, watermark and sign-up
How do I change a video’s speed for free?
Drop your clip into ToolDeck, select it and open the Speed control in the Style tab. Set any value from 0.25x to 4x, then press Export. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded, there is no watermark and no account is needed.
Is it really free, with no watermark?
Yes. No credits, no daily caps, no watermark, no sign-up. The only limits come from your device: memory, processor speed and a 1 GB per-file cap.
Do I need an account?
No. Open the page, drop in your clip and change the speed. There is no login, no email wall and no trial.
Speed control
What speed range is supported?
From 0.25x (four times slower) to 4x (four times faster), set per clip. You can add several clips at different speeds on the same timeline to build a speed ramp.
Can I change speed on just part of a clip?
Yes. Split the clip at the playhead with S, then change speed on the new clip independently. The rest of the clip stays at its original speed.
What is a speed ramp and how do I make one?
A speed ramp is a smooth change from one speed to another. Split a clip into two parts, set the first to 0.5x and the second to 2x (or any pair), and add a short cross-dissolve between them. The transition hides the speed jump.
Can I make a freeze frame?
Yes. Select the clip, open the Speed control and choose Freeze frame. Set the duration in seconds and the editor holds that exact frame while the rest of the timeline keeps playing.
Does the audio pitch change when I speed up or slow down?
By default pitch is preserved, so a 2x speed change makes the audio shorter but not higher. Toggle pitch preservation off for chipmunk or slow-mo demon effects.
Quality, formats and export
Does speeding up or slowing down hurt quality?
Rendering re-encodes the video, so the export is not bit-identical to the source. Quality stays good at the same resolution and frame rate. Slowing down to 0.25x can look choppy if the source was shot at a low fps — shoot at 60 or 120 fps for the best slow motion.
What is the best fps for slow motion?
Shoot at 60 fps for 0.5x slow motion and 120 fps for 0.25x. The higher the source fps, the smoother the slow motion, because more real frames are available per second.
What formats can I import and export?
Import MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV (if the browser plays it), plus JPG, PNG, WebP and common audio formats. Export is MP4 (H.264 with AAC audio) in Chrome and Edge, or MP4/WebM from the recorder engine.
What resolution can I export?
Up to 4K at 60 fps if your device has enough memory and processing power. For social, 1080p is faster and plenty sharp.
Privacy and devices
Does it upload my video?
No. Speed change and rendering happen inside your browser tab. Open your browser developer tools, go to the Network tab, and edit and export a clip to verify nothing is uploaded.
Which browser works best?
Chrome and Edge on desktop for the fastest preview and export. Firefox works with the compatibility engine. Safari has limited support for some effects.
Does it work on mobile?
The editor loads on mobile, but layout and performance are built for desktop. For serious speed editing use Chrome or Edge on a computer.
Legal and responsible use
Can I use exported videos commercially?
ToolDeck claims no rights over your exports. Commercial use depends on the rights to the footage, music and images inside the video. Make sure you are licensed to use them.
What this tool does well, and where it is limited
Everything runs on your own computer, so results depend on your browser, memory and graphics card.
| Project type | Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Normal speed change 0.25x to 4x | Works well | Handles any value in the range. Preview updates instantly. |
| Slowing down to 0.25x | Works well | Renders smoothly. For 24 fps sources the slow motion can look slightly choppy at very low speeds. |
| Speeding up to 4x | Works well | Audio speeds up too unless you detach or mute it. |
| Very long clips respeeded | Memory heavy | A 4x speed change on a 20-minute clip uses less memory but a 0.25x change uses more. Split long projects. |
| True slo-mo from 60 fps source | Best quality | Shooting at 60 or 120 fps gives the smoothest 0.25x slow motion. Speed changer cannot add frames that were not captured. |
| Speed change on Safari | Limited | Preview works but pitch and speed previews may vary. Use Chrome or Edge on desktop. |
Tips for better speed control
Shoot at 60 fps for smooth slow motion
A 30 fps clip slowed to 0.25x shows only about 7 frames a second. Shoot at 60 or 120 fps and slow motion stays smooth.
Keep audio natural with pitch preservation
Turn on pitch preservation when speeding up or slowing down talking clips. Voices stay human, not chipmunk or demon.
Add a ramp for transitions
Two clips back to back, one at 0.5x, one at 2x, gives a whip-pan or speed ramp effect without any advanced keyframing.
Freeze on the punchline
A 1–2 second freeze frame on the key moment is the fastest way to add a laugh or hold a product reveal.
ToolDeck vs cloud speed changers
Cloud tools upload your files and often watermark free exports. ToolDeck changes speed in your browser and adds no watermark. Choose by what your project needs.
