Upscale 1080p to 4K Free: Exact 2x, No Upload

Turn 1920x1080 video into 3840x2160 right in your browser. Drop a file, keep the 4K target and download the result. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored. No sign-up, no watermark, up to 10 videos at once.

  • Exact 2x step
  • GPU accelerated
  • Batch up to 10 files
  • No watermark

⚠️ Performance Warning

  • If you don't have a graphics card (GPU), rendering will be slow. A GPU finishes short clips in seconds, a CPU can take several minutes.
  • Please upload large files (close to 300 MB) one by one or in very small batches.
  • Do not upscale 4K resolution for all 10 files at once. Please try batches of 2 to 5 files for 4K.
  • Processing speed depends heavily on your GPU, CPU, and system memory.
  • Mobile devices will be significantly slower than laptops and desktop PCs.
  • 100% Secure
  • No Upload
  • No Storage
  • No Sign-up
  • Runs in Browser
  • No Watermark

How do I upscale 1080p to 4K for free?

Drop your 1080p video into the tool above, keep the 4K target, click Start Upscale and download the 3840x2160 MP4. It runs on your own device, so nothing is uploaded and no watermark is added. 1080p to 4K is an exact 2x step, which is the cleanest upscale you can do. It sharpens edges but cannot add detail that was never recorded, so anime, screen recordings and clean footage look best.

What your 1080p video becomes at 4K

In 4K mode the short side of the frame is set to 2160 px and your aspect ratio is kept. Here is what the common kinds of 1080p video turn into.

2560x1080 (ultrawide 21:9)5120x2160This sits at the tool size limit, so it is the widest output you can get.

How to upscale 1080p to 4K in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Drop your 1080p video

Choose up to 10 files, or drag them onto the tool. They open in your browser and are never uploaded.

  2. 2

    Keep the 4K target

The 4K (3840x2160) target is already selected, which is exactly 2x for a 1920x1080 video. Pick a quality preset if you are on the CPU engine.

  3. 3

    Upscale and download

Click Start Upscale, wait for the progress bar, then download the 4K MP4. Several files come as one ZIP.

Which 1080p footage upscales best

The upscaler is tuned for edges and lines, so the type of footage matters more than the resolution. Check your video against this table before you start.

How different types of 1080p footage respond to 4K upscaling
Footage typeResultNotes
Anime and cartoonsExcellentThe model is tuned for clean lines and flat color, so this is where 4K looks best.
Screen recordings and UIVery goodText and interface edges come out crisper than a plain resize.
Game capturesGoodWorks well on clean, sharp renders. Heavy compression in the source reduces the gain.
Clean camera footageModerateEdges improve, but skin and fine texture gain little because no new detail is added.
Noisy or low-light videoLimitedNoise is enlarged along with everything else. Try the Video Enhancer to denoise first.
Heavily compressed or blocky videoLimitedCompression blocks become larger blocks. The result looks bigger, not cleaner.

Is upscaling 1080p to 4K worth it?

Sometimes. Trim long clips first with the Video Trimmer, and shrink the big 4K file afterwards with the Video Compressor.

It is worth it when

  • You need a 4K file for a project, a 4K editing timeline or a platform that asks for it
  • Your source is clean: animation, screen recording, game capture or a good camera clip
  • You will watch it on a large 4K display and want sharper edges than a plain resize

It is not worth it when

  • Your 1080p video is noisy, dark or heavily compressed, because 4K will not fix that
  • You only need to share it quickly, since 4K files are several times bigger
  • You expect new detail to appear, which this tool cannot create

ToolDeck vs desktop and cloud 4K upscalers

A general comparison by type of tool. Desktop apps and some cloud models can add generated detail, but they need an install or an upload. Exact features vary by product.

Upscale 1080p to 4K: questions people ask

Quick answers about quality, footage types, file size, speed and limits.

How do I upscale 1080p to 4K for free?

Open the tool above, drop your 1080p video, keep the 4K target and click Start Upscale. The video is processed in your browser, so there is no upload, no sign-up and no watermark. When it finishes, download the 4K MP4.

Is 1080p to 4K exactly 2x?

Yes. 1920x1080 doubles to 3840x2160, so each source pixel maps to a clean 2x2 block before sharpening. The GPU AI model also works in a 2x pass, so for 1080p sources its output needs no extra resizing step.

Why is 1080p to 4K the best case for upscaling?

Because the scale is a whole number and the source usually has more real detail than 720p or 480p. A clean 2x step avoids the soft, uneven look that fractional scales like 1.5x or 2.25x can give.

Is it worth upscaling 1080p to 4K?

It depends on your footage and your goal. It is worth it for clean sources, 4K projects and large displays. It is not worth it for noisy or heavily compressed video, or when you just need a small file to share.

Will 1080p look better on my 4K TV after upscaling?

Slightly, at best. A 4K TV already scales 1080p itself. Upscaling first sharpens edges before the TV sees the video, which can look cleaner on anime and screen content. On normal camera footage the difference is subtle.

Does it add real 4K detail?

No. It enlarges the frame and sharpens edges, but it cannot create detail that was not recorded. The file is a real 3840x2160 video, yet the information in it still comes from your 1080p source.

What kinds of video look best at 4K?

Anime, cartoons, screen recordings and game captures give the strongest results because they have clean edges and flat areas. Clean camera footage gets a smaller gain.

What kinds of video do not improve much?

Noisy, dark or heavily compressed video. Noise and compression blocks are enlarged along with the picture. Denoise the clip first, or accept a bigger but not cleaner result.

Can I upscale vertical 1080x1920 video to 4K?

Yes. In Resolution mode the target applies to the short side, and your aspect ratio is kept. A 1080x1920 phone video becomes 2160x3840.

What about ultrawide 2560x1080 video?

It becomes 5120x2160, which is the widest size the tool allows. Anything that would go past that limit is scaled down to fit.

Why is the 4K file so much bigger?

A 4K frame has four times the pixels of a 1080p frame. Output often runs at roughly 15 to 30 Mbps depending on the engine and quality setting, which is usually several times your 1080p file. Use the Video Compressor if you need it smaller.

How long does 1080p to 4K take?

On a device with WebGPU, a short clip usually takes seconds to a couple of minutes. Without WebGPU the tool falls back to the CPU, which is much slower at 4K. Trim long clips and close other tabs first.

What are the file limits?

Up to 300 MB and 3 minutes per file, and up to 10 files per batch. For 4K, run 2 to 5 files at a time, because 4K uses a lot of memory.

Does it keep the audio?

Yes for MP4 output, and you can switch it off with Keep audio. On the fast engines, audio is re-attached afterwards, and for files over 150 MB it may be skipped, in which case the tool shows a note.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is decoded, upscaled and re-encoded in your browser. Open your browser Network tab while it runs and you will see that no request carries your file.

Can I go beyond 4K?

No. The tool tops out at 4K class sizes to keep processing stable in the browser, and it never scales a video down.

Explore other tools that run entirely in your browser.

Your videos never leave your device

There is no upload step and no server-side video handling. The video is decoded, upscaled and re-encoded in your browser using WebCodecs and, when available, WebGPU. Open the browser Network tab while upscaling and confirm that no request carries your file. Read how we keep it private.
