What is the ToolDeck video voiceover recorder?

ToolDeck Video Voiceover Recorder is a free browser tool for recording narration over a video. It uses the browser’s microphone API and the same WebCodecs engine as the ToolDeck Video Editor, so audio and video stay on your device. You can preview the video while recording, re-record takes, mix voiceover with music, and export an MP4 with the voiceover baked in — or the audio mix as WAV. No account and no watermark.

It is built for tutorial narration, course and lecture voiceover, product demos, documentary-style voice tracks, podcast clips and audiobook-style narration. It does not include AI noise removal, so use a quiet room or clean up noisy takes in an audio editor.

How to record a voiceover in 3 steps

  1. 1

Import a clip and press Record

Open the Audio tab and press Record. The browser asks for microphone permission once.

  2. 2

    Speak while the video plays

The video previews during recording. The take is added to an audio track automatically.

  3. 3

Trim, fade and mix, then export

Adjust the voiceover and music levels, add fades, and render an MP4 with the mixed audio.

Voiceover features, free

  • Record mic in the browser tab

Press Record, grant microphone permission once, and capture narration without leaving the editor.

  • Playback preview while recording

The video plays while you record so you can time narration to the visuals.

  • Take added to the audio track automatically

Each recording becomes a clip on an audio track, aligned with the playhead position.

  • Re-record any take

Discard a take and record again. The previous recording is replaced.

  • Mix voiceover with background music

Keep a music bed on one audio track and voiceover on another, then balance levels.

  • Volume fades on voice clips

Fade narration in and out to avoid abrupt starts and ends.

  • Beat markers for music timing

If the voiceover introduces music, beat markers help time the edit to the track.

  • Export MP4 with the voiceover baked in

Render an H.264 MP4 with the mixed audio. The audio mix can also be exported as WAV.

What you can make with a video voiceover

  • Tutorial narration

Record step-by-step narration over a screen recording or demo.

  • Course and lecture voiceover

Narrate slides, diagrams or demonstrations with re-recordable takes.

  • Product demo narration

Walk viewers through a product with timed narration and a music bed.

  • Documentary-style voice tracks

Record narration over B-roll and adjust timing against the visuals.

  • Podcast clips with voice and music

Lay a voice track over a music bed for a short podcast video clip.

  • Audiobook-style narration over visuals

Read a script over images or slow footage and export a finished MP4.

What voiceover recording does well, and where it is limited

The recorder captures what your microphone hears. Check this table before a large project.

Voiceover recording conditions and results
ConditionResultNotes
Clear voice with a decent micWorks wellA quiet room and a USB or headset mic give the best result.
Loud room noiseNeeds cleanupThe recorder captures the room. Use a quieter space or clean up in an audio editor.
AI noise removalNot includedThere is no built-in denoise. Fix noisy takes in a separate audio tool.
Very long recordingsMemory strainBreak narration into shorter takes if the browser slows down.
Mobile microphoneWorks but lower qualityPhone mics pick up more room noise and handling sound.
Bluetooth microphonesPossible latencySome Bluetooth devices add delay. A wired mic is more predictable.

Tips for better voiceover takes

  • Record in a quiet room

Turn off fans and notifications. The recorder does not remove room noise.

  • Record in shorter takes

If you stumble, re-record that section rather than the whole narration.

  • Leave headroom in the mix

Keep music below the voice so narration stays intelligible.

  • Use fades on voice clips

Short fades prevent clicks and abrupt starts.

ToolDeck vs cloud voiceover tools

Cloud tools upload your video and often add watermarks or limits. ToolDeck records and renders in your browser, so files stay on your device.
