What is the ToolDeck CapCut alternative?
ToolDeck Video Editor is a free, browser-based editor with a multi-track timeline, AI captions, SRT and VTT support, automatic silence removal, filters, transitions and chroma key. It uses WebCodecs and WebAssembly to edit and render on your own device, so files are never uploaded. It needs no account, adds no watermark and exports MP4 up to 4K at 60 fps.
It is best for short videos, social clips, tutorials, subtitles and private footage. It is not built for very long films or for cloud features such as stock libraries, motion tracking and AI background removal. Its AI captions recognise English speech today; subtitle files in any language can be imported.
How to edit video in the browser in 3 steps
- 1
Drop in your media
Open the editor and drop videos, photos and music. Files are opened in your browser and are not uploaded. Use 9:16 for vertical, 16:9 for YouTube.
- 2
Edit on the timeline
Trim, split, cut silence, add text, filters, transitions and voiceover. Generate auto captions or import an SRT or VTT file. Everything is a normal timeline edit and undo works up to 100 steps.
- 3
Render and download
Choose resolution, frame rate and GPU or CPU, then render. Download the finished MP4 with no watermark, plus the SRT or VTT file if you need it.
Pro editing features, free
Free AI auto captions in your browser
Open-source Whisper speech recognition transcribes English speech on your device, times every word, and turns it into editable caption clips. Apply 40+ caption styles. The model downloads once and your audio never leaves your device.
Multi-track timeline with real editing depth
Main, overlay, text and two audio tracks. Drag to move, drag edges to trim, snap to clips, the playhead and beat markers. Undo and redo up to 100 steps. Ripple delete and Close Gaps clear empty space in one click.
No watermark, no sign-up, no upload
Unlike CapCut free plans, ToolDeck adds no watermark to exports. There is no login, no email wall and no cloud render queue. Files are opened locally and rendered locally, so nothing leaves your device.
Filters, green screen, transitions, Ken Burns
Twelve colour looks with manual sliders, vignette, chroma key for green screen, eight transitions, Ken Burns motion and fades. Auto enhance tunes brightness, contrast and colour in one click.
Automatic silence removal, one click
Set the silence threshold and minimum pause length, press Cut Silent Parts, and the editor splits the clip at every quiet section and closes the gaps. Tick "Apply to all clips" to process a whole track at once.
Any aspect ratio, any speed
16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5, 4:3, 3:4 and 21:9 with blurred background for vertical video. Speed 0.25x to 4x, freeze frame, detach audio, voiceover recording and volume fades.
GPU or CPU rendering with WebCodecs
Exports use WebCodecs to encode H.264, using your graphics card when it is available and your CPU when it is not. The compatibility recorder is the fallback in browsers without WebCodecs.
SRT and VTT subtitle support
Import SRT or VTT subtitle files in any language, burn them into the video, edit the cues, and export them back as SRT or VTT for YouTube, Premiere, DaVinci and CapCut.

CapCut alternative FAQ
Answers about pricing, watermark, privacy, captions, editing features, export and choosing between ToolDeck and CapCut.
Free, watermark and sign-up
Is ToolDeck a good free CapCut alternative?
Yes. It covers the same core workflow — multi-track timeline, text, filters, transitions, speed changes and automatic captions — with no watermark, no sign-up and no upload. It does not include cloud features like stock templates, stock music, motion tracking or AI background removal, and its AI captions currently recognise English speech. For privacy, no-watermark exports and free auto captions, it is a strong replacement.
Is it really free with no hidden limits?
Yes. ToolDeck sets no credits, no daily cap, no video length limit and no sign-up. The practical limits come from your device: browser memory, processor speed and graphics card, plus a 1 GB limit per imported file.
Does ToolDeck add a watermark to exports?
No. Exports have no ToolDeck branding, no watermark and no added audio tag. ToolDeck claims no rights over your exports.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Open the page, drop in your files and start editing. There is no login, no email wall, no trial and no credit system.
How is it different from CapCut?
CapCut is a full cloud editor with a large stock library, templates, motion tracking and multilingual AI. ToolDeck runs entirely in your browser with no upload, no account and no watermark. CapCut has a much larger effects and template library. ToolDeck is better for privacy, no sign-up, no watermark and quick caption + edit jobs. Choose based on what matters more for your project.
Is it free forever?
Yes. There are no credits, no trial, no daily limits and no paid tier to upgrade to. ToolDeck runs locally, so there is no per-minute server cost.
Does it work on Mac, Windows, Linux and Chromebook?
Yes. It runs in a modern browser on any operating system. Use the latest Chrome or Edge for the best speed.
Captions, subtitles and AI
Does it have free auto captions like CapCut?
Yes. AI auto captions are built in and free. Whisper speech recognition runs on your device, times every word, and adds editable caption clips. Apply 40+ caption styles and edit any word. No credits, no watermark, no account.
Which languages do the AI captions support?
The built-in speech model is English only. For other languages, import an SRT or VTT subtitle file and burn it into the video. The subtitle file can be in any language.
Can I import and export SRT and VTT files?
Yes. Import an SRT or VTT file in any language, edit the cues on the timeline, and export the captions back as SRT or VTT for YouTube, Premiere, DaVinci and CapCut.
Can I remove silence from video?
Yes. Select a clip, set the silence level and minimum pause length, and press Cut Silent Parts. Tick Apply to all clips to process every clip on the track. This is the fastest way to make automatic jump cuts.
Can I make vertical videos for TikTok, Reels and Shorts?
Yes. Choose 9:16 in the Ratio menu. Blurred background fills the sides when a horizontal clip does not fit vertically. See the TikTok Video Editor for the full workflow.
Editing features
What editing features are included?
Multi-track timeline, trim, split, ripple delete, Close Gaps, twelve colour looks, manual sliders, vignette, chroma key for green screen, eight transitions, Ken Burns motion, auto enhance, speed 0.25x to 4x, freeze frame, detach audio, voiceover recording and volume fades. Undo and redo up to 100 steps.
Does it support green screen (chroma key)?
Yes. Open the Style tab on an overlay clip, enable chroma key, pick the key colour and adjust tolerance. Place the clip above your background clip.
Can I record a voiceover?
Yes. In the Audio tab, press Record. Playback starts so you can talk over the video, and the take is added to the Audio track. Your browser asks for microphone permission first.
How many tracks and clips can I use?
The timeline has a main track, an overlay track, a text track and two audio tracks. The number of clips is limited only by your device memory.
Are keyboard shortcuts available?
Yes. Space plays and pauses, S splits, Delete removes a clip, Shift+Delete ripple deletes, Ctrl+D duplicates, Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y undo and redo, arrow keys step frames, plus and minus zoom the timeline.
Export, quality and formats
What formats can I import and export?
Import MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV (if your browser can play it), common image formats and MP3, WAV, M4A and OGG audio. Export is MP4 (H.264 with AAC audio) in Chrome and Edge. The recorder engine exports MP4 or WebM depending on the browser. Captions export as SRT or VTT, and the audio mix exports as WAV.
What is the maximum export resolution?
You can export up to 4K at 60 fps if your device has enough memory and processing power. For most social videos, 1080p at 30 fps is faster and plenty sharp. Unlike CapCut, 4K export is not paywalled.
How does GPU and CPU rendering work?
Export uses WebCodecs to encode H.264 video. With hardware acceleration on, your graphics card encodes the video when the browser supports it. With it off, the CPU does the work. If your browser has no WebCodecs, a real-time recorder is used instead.
Why is rendering slow?
Without a graphics card, rendering runs on the CPU, and 4K, 60 fps or many layers make it slower. Try 1080p, 30 fps, fewer effects and close other tabs. Mobile devices are much slower than a desktop.
Why does my export fail or the tab crash?
Usually the browser ran out of memory. Close other tabs, lower the resolution or frame rate, remove heavy effects, trim big source files first, or split a long project into parts. Chrome or Edge on desktop is the most reliable.
Privacy and browsers
Does it upload my videos?
No. Editing and rendering happen inside your browser tab. To check, open the Network tab in your browser developer tools while you edit and export. The only downloads are the editor code and, if you use AI captions, the open speech model from a public CDN.
Is it safe for private or confidential footage?
Yes. Your files are processed locally and never sent to ToolDeck servers, which makes it a good fit for private or client footage. CapCut and cloud editors require upload. Keep your browser updated, and avoid shared computers for sensitive work.
Which browser works best?
Chrome and Edge on desktop give the best results because they support WebCodecs for fast GPU or CPU export. Firefox works with the compatibility engine. Safari has limited support for some canvas filters.
Does it work offline?
After the page and editor code have loaded, editing and rendering run locally and do not need the internet. AI captions need a one-time model download first.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
The editor loads on mobile, but the layout and performance are built for desktop. For serious editing and exports, use Chrome or Edge on a computer.
Comparison and choosing
When should I choose CapCut instead?
If you need stock music, cloud templates, motion tracking, AI background removal or multilingual auto captions, CapCut or another cloud editor is a better fit. CapCut’s stock and template library is far larger. Choose ToolDeck when privacy, no watermark, no account and free auto captions matter more.
Is ToolDeck faster than CapCut?
Not necessarily. CapCut renders on its cloud servers, so a weak PC still gets fast export. ToolDeck renders on your device, so a strong PC with a GPU exports quickly but a weak device is slower. The upside is that ToolDeck starts instantly with no install and no upload step.
Do I need to install anything?
No. ToolDeck runs in your browser. CapCut offers a browser version and a desktop and mobile app. ToolDeck is browser-only by design.
Is there a mobile app?
No mobile app. The editor loads on mobile, but the layout and performance are built for desktop. For mobile-only workflows, CapCut’s app is a strong choice.
Legal and responsible use
Is it legal to use music and clips I find online?
Only use music, footage and images you own or are licensed to use. Ignoring copyright can get videos blocked or taken down on social platforms. This is general information, not legal advice.
Can I use exported videos commercially?
ToolDeck adds no watermark and claims no rights over your exports. Whether you can use a video commercially depends on the rights to the footage, music, fonts and images inside it, so make sure you are licensed to use them.
What this editor does well, and where it is limited
| Project type | Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Short videos, social clips, tutorials | Works well | The core CapCut workflow — trim, captions, transitions, filters — is fully covered. |
| Users who want no sign-up | Works well | No account, no email, no trial. Open and edit. |
| Users who want no watermark | Works well | Exports have no ToolDeck branding. |
| AI captions in languages other than English | Not supported yet | The speech model is English only. Import an SRT or VTT file in any language via the editor. |
| Very large effect and template libraries | Smaller than CapCut | Twelve colour looks, eight transitions and 40+ caption styles. CapCut cloud library is far larger. |
| Stock music and video templates | Not included | Use CapCut or a stock library if you need a built-in catalogue. |
| Cloud AI (motion tracking, background removal) | Not supported | Needs cloud processing. Use chroma key on a green screen instead. |
| Very long videos (over 30 minutes) | Not recommended | Browser memory is the limit. Split the project into parts. |
Tips for CapCut users switching to ToolDeck
Use auto captions for short-form
CapCut’s biggest draw is fast captions. ToolDeck does the same job on your device. Pair auto captions with silence removal and a 9:16 aspect ratio for a complete TikTok workflow.
Trim big files first
Cut long recordings with the Video Trimmer, or shrink them with the Video Compressor, so the editor uses less memory before adding effects.
Keep the tab visible while rendering
Browsers slow down background tabs. The compatibility engine records in real time and needs the tab open the whole time.
Export the SRT alongside the MP4
Burned-in captions cannot be edited later. Keep the SRT or VTT file so you can upload to YouTube or re-edit captions without regenerating.
Know when to use CapCut instead
If you need stock music, cloud templates, motion tracking or AI background removal, CapCut or another cloud editor is a better fit. ToolDeck wins on privacy, no watermark, no account and free auto captions.
ToolDeck vs CapCut
CapCut is a cloud editor with a large stock library, templates and cloud AI. ToolDeck trades cloud features for privacy and no limits: nothing is uploaded and exports have no watermark. Choose by what your project needs.
