Password generator for 15 characters (and longer)

Quick answer: move the length slider to 15 and the 15 character password generator makes one instantly. A random 15-character password that mixes lowercase, uppercase, digits and symbols has about 98 bits of entropy, which the meter rates as strong. If the site you are signing up to does not accept symbols, use letters and digits only (about 89 bits) or go to 16 characters or more.

LengthLetters, digits, symbolsLetters and digits onlyVerdict
    12 characters78.7 bits71.5 bitsGood, minimum for low-risk accounts

Entropy = length x log2(pool size). 94 characters for letters, digits and symbols, 62 for letters and digits.

A random password generator for every job

From a quick random password maker to bulk passwords for IT teams, here is how people use this free generator.

Random password maker: easy, free and instant

Looking for an easy random password generator? There is nothing to learn. Open the tool, pick a length, and a random password is made the moment the page loads. Not happy with it? Press generate again. It works as a random password maker, a random password generator tool and a random passcode generator in one page, with no ads between you and your password.

BitLocker and disk encryption password generator

A BitLocker password protects a drive that can be stolen and attacked offline, so length matters more than cleverness. Windows asks for at least 8 characters by default (your administrator can change this), but a stolen drive can be attacked at full speed, so choose 15 characters or more, or a passphrase of 8 or more words. The 48-digit BitLocker recovery key is created by Windows itself, so keep that separate from the password you generate here. The same advice applies to VeraCrypt, FileVault and encrypted archives.

Password generator for MSPs and IT teams

Managed service providers and IT admins often need many unique passwords at once: client admin accounts, local administrator passwords, service accounts, Wi-Fi keys. Bulk mode makes up to 50 per batch. Use a different password for every client and every device, paste each one into your password manager or documentation platform, and delete the .txt download once it is stored. Because nothing is uploaded, there is no copy outside your browser.

Fake username and password generator for testing

Developers and testers need throwaway credentials for demos, staging databases, tutorials and screenshots. Use random mode to make fake passwords in bulk. For a matching fake username, switch symbols off and set the length to 8 to 12 characters. Never use a real password in test data, and never reuse a test password on a real account.

Strong password generator with words (passphrases)

A passphrase is a strong password made of random words, for example Cedar-Mango-Velvet-Lion-Pearl-Olive-Tiger-Moon. Switch to passphrase mode and each word adds 8 bits of entropy. Eight words gives 64 bits and twelve words gives 96 bits, so use 8 or more for anything that matters. It is much easier to type on a phone or TV than a random string.

    Local, non-dictionary password generator

Everything runs locally in your browser, so there is no server to trust. In random mode characters are chosen one at a time, so the result contains no dictionary words and cannot be found by a wordlist attack. You can check this yourself by opening your browser network tab while you generate.

    How strong is strong enough?

Entropy is measured in bits, each additional bit doubles the attacker's work. These are the practical ranges that matter.

    EntropyRatingTypical exampleTime to crack (offline)
0 to 39 bitsVery weak6 lowercase letters, 4-word passphraseInstant to minutes
40 to 59 bitsWeak8 mixed characters, 5 to 7 word passphraseSeconds to weeks
    60 to 79 bitsGood10 to 12 mixed characters, 8 to 9 word passphraseMonths to about 100,000 years
80 to 99 bitsStrong13 to 15 mixed characters, 10 to 12 word passphraseHundreds of thousands to billions of years
100 and above bitsVery strong16+ mixed characters, 13+ word passphraseLonger than the age of the universe

Crack time assumes an offline attacker with a modern GPU rig testing 100 billion guesses per second against a stolen password hash. Online attacks (against a live login form) are 10 to 100 times slower because of rate limits.

    Which password generator is best?

How to generate a strong password

    1. 1

      Pick a mode

Random for website logins. Passphrase for things you type. PIN for phone locks.

    2. 2

      Set the rules

Length (for example 15 or 16 characters), character types, look-alike exclusion, how many at once. The strength meter updates as you go.

    3. 3

      Copy or download

Copy individual passwords or download the whole batch as a .txt file. Nothing is stored on our side.

    Everything you get for free

    • Three modes: random, passphrase, PIN

Random for site logins: letters, digits, symbols, any length. Passphrase for things you type often, so Apple-Mango-Cedar-Lion-72 is easy to remember. PIN for phone locks and ATM-style codes.

    • Cryptographically secure randomness

Uses your browser's crypto.getRandomValues(), the same source used by TLS and banking apps. Not Math.random(), which is predictable. Every bit is uniform and unguessable.

    • 100% private, nothing uploaded

Passwords are generated on your device. There is no server, no log, no history. If you close the tab, they are gone. Nothing to leak, because nothing was stored.

    • Live entropy and crack-time estimate

Every setting updates the entropy in bits and an estimate of how long an offline attacker would need at 100 billion guesses per second. You see instantly how much stronger 20 characters is than 15.

    • Exclude look-alike characters

Remove I, l, 1, O, 0 and o from the pool so you never misread a password when typing it from paper. Perfect for Wi-Fi passwords, router admin and printed credentials.

    • Bulk up to 50 passwords

Need passwords for a team, a set of servers, or a fresh set for the whole family? Generate up to 50 in one batch and download them as a .txt file.

    • Six quick presets

Standard, Strong, Maximum, Wi-Fi friendly (no symbols), No symbols, and Readable (lowercase and digits only, no look-alikes). One click sets every option to a sensible starting point.

    • Reveal, hide and copy

Passwords are hidden by default with bullet dots, so a shoulder-surfer cannot read them off your screen. Toggle visibility for any single one, then copy with one click.

    • No sign-up, no email, no watermark

Open the tool, get passwords, close the tab. No account creation, no email confirmation, no "Powered by" stamp on your downloaded list.

    What people use it for

    • New website signups

Every site you sign up for should have a unique, strong password. Generate one per site so a leak at one service never compromises your other accounts.

    • Wi-Fi and router passwords

Pick the Wi-Fi friendly preset: 20 characters, no symbols, no look-alikes. Fast to type on a phone, safe from your neighbours, printable for the fridge.

    • Team and business accounts

Generate 20 to 50 unique passwords for team members, service accounts and admin logins. Download as a .txt, distribute through a password manager.

    • Fake and dummy passwords for testing

Need a fake username and password for a demo, a QA test account, a sample database or a screenshot? Generate random ones here. Use throwaway values for test data, never reuse a real password.

    • Passwords you have to type

For accounts you log into often on a device without a password manager, a long passphrase like Cedar-Mango-Velvet-Lion-Pearl-Olive-Tiger-Moon-72 is far easier to type and remember than Xk9@#mP2!.

    • Phone and tablet PINs

Switch to PIN mode for iOS and Android lock screens. 6 digits minimum, 8 is stronger, and 12 is essentially unbreakable with rate-limiting.

    • Recovery codes and API keys

Some systems ask for any random string. Generate 32 to 50 characters here, paste once, save in your password manager. Same security as a hardware-token secret.

    Questions people ask

How do I generate a 15 character password?

Set the length slider to 15, choose random mode, keep lowercase, uppercase, digits and symbols turned on, and the generator creates a 15-character password instantly. A 15-character password using all four character types has about 98 bits of entropy, which the strength meter rates as strong. Copy it with one click or generate up to 50 at once.

Is a 15 character password strong enough?

Yes for almost every account. 15 random characters from letters, digits and symbols give about 98 bits of entropy. Even against an offline attacker testing 100 billion guesses per second, that is billions of years. If a site does not allow symbols, 15 letters and digits still gives about 89 bits, so consider 16 or more characters. For email, banking and your password manager master password, 20 characters is a better target.

Is this a free random password generator?

Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up, no email, no daily limit and no watermark. Pick a length, choose which character types to include, and copy your random password. Generate up to 50 at once if you need a batch.

Is this an easy random password generator?

Yes. A random password appears as soon as the page loads, and one click makes another. For something easier to read or type, use the Readable preset (no look-alike characters) or switch to passphrase mode, which makes passwords out of random words.

Can I use this as a random password maker for a BitLocker drive?

Yes, to make the password that unlocks the drive. Windows requires at least 8 characters by default and your administrator can raise that. Because a stolen drive can be attacked offline, use 15 or more characters or a passphrase of 8 or more words. The 48-digit BitLocker recovery key is created by Windows itself, so this tool cannot make it. Store that key separately from your password.

Is this password generator suitable for MSPs and IT admins?

Yes. Bulk mode makes up to 50 unique passwords per batch for client accounts, local admin accounts and service accounts. Paste each into your password manager or documentation platform and delete the .txt download afterwards. Use a different password for every client and device.

Is this a random passcode generator?

Yes. Switch to PIN mode to make a numeric passcode. A 6-digit passcode has about 20 bits of entropy and an 8-digit one about 27 bits. That is low, so a PIN is only safe where the device or service limits the number of attempts, such as a phone lock screen. For anything attackable offline, use a long random password or passphrase.

Is there a strong password generator that uses words?

Yes. Passphrase mode joins random words, like Cedar-Mango-Velvet-Lion-Pearl-Olive-Tiger-Moon. Each word is picked at random from a fixed list, so use 8 or more words for real security.

    Are these passwords truly random?

Yes. The generator uses your browser's crypto.getRandomValues() function, which is a cryptographically secure random number generator. It is the same source used by TLS certificates, banking apps and password managers. It is not Math.random(), which is predictable and unsuitable for security.

Are my passwords sent to a server?

No. Generation happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is transmitted, logged or stored. If you close the tab, everything is gone. There is nothing on our side to leak. You can open your browser network tab and verify.

Is this a local password generator?

Yes, in the sense that matters for privacy: the passwords are created locally on your own device by your browser, and nothing is sent to a server. You do not need to install anything.

Is this a non-dictionary password generator?

In random mode, yes. It picks individual characters at random, so the result contains no dictionary words and cannot be found in a wordlist attack. Only passphrase mode uses words, and it picks them randomly from a fixed list, so use 8 or more words if you choose it.

Can I make a fake or dummy password for testing?

Yes. Random passwords are ideal as fake data for test accounts, demos, sample databases, tutorials and screenshots. Generate as many as you need (up to 50 per batch) and download them as a .txt file. Never use a real password in test data, and never reuse a password you generated for testing on a real account.

    Does this generate usernames too?

The tool generates passwords, passphrases and PINs, not usernames. If you need a fake or throwaway username for test data, a short random string works: pick random mode, turn symbols off and set the length to 8 to 12 characters. Then generate a separate password for the matching fake login.

    Which password generator is best?

The best password generator uses a cryptographically secure random source, runs on your device so nothing is uploaded, lets you choose length and character types, and does not require sign-up. ToolDeck does all of this for free, and shows live entropy so you can see exactly how strong each password is. Password managers such as Bitwarden, 1Password and KeePassXC also include strong generators and are the best place to store what you create.

How long should my password be?

15 to 16 characters is a good modern minimum for important accounts, and 20 characters is better. 12 characters of truly random mixed characters is still good, but weaker against offline attacks. For anything protecting money, email or identity, aim for 100 or more bits of entropy, which the strength meter shows. If you must type it by hand, use a passphrase of 8 or more words instead.

What is a passphrase and is it stronger than a password?

A passphrase is a sequence of random words joined together, like Cedar-Mango-Velvet-Lion-Pearl-Olive-Tiger-Moon. Each word is picked from a list of 256 words, so each word adds 8 bits of entropy. Five words is 40 bits, eight words is 64 bits, twelve words is 96 bits. Passphrases are much easier to remember and type than random characters, but you need more of them: a short 4 or 5 word passphrase is weaker than a 12 character random password. Use 8 or more words for real security.

    Should I use symbols?

Symbols add about 33% more possible characters per position, so they do increase strength. But they also make passwords harder to type on some devices and sometimes get stripped by poorly built login forms. If your account allows symbols without issue, use them. If not, compensate by making the password longer, 20 characters instead of 15.

What does exclude look-alike characters do?

It removes I, l, 1, O, 0 and o from the pool. These characters look nearly identical in many fonts. If you ever need to type a password from printed paper or read it aloud over the phone, this option eliminates a common source of errors. The strength loss is minimal.

What is the crack time number?

It is an estimate of how long an attacker would need to brute-force the password, assuming they have the hash and can test 100 billion guesses per second, a realistic offline attack using a high-end GPU rig. It assumes they have to try half the keyspace on average. It is a comparison guide, not a guarantee, real-world attacks have different speeds.

Can I generate multiple passwords at once?

Yes. Use the Number of passwords slider to generate up to 50 in one batch. Perfect for setting up team accounts, servers, or giving every family member a unique Wi-Fi password. Click Copy all or download the batch as a .txt file.

Is the .txt file safe to keep?

The .txt file is only as safe as where you store it. Do not keep it on your desktop. Move the file into an encrypted password manager (1Password, Bitwarden, KeePass) or an encrypted folder, then delete the original. The safest approach: paste each password directly into your password manager and never save the file.

    Do you save my passwords?

No. Nothing is stored. There is no database, no log, no analytics event that captures the values. The batch you see exists only in your browser's memory until you close the tab.

Should I use a password manager?

Yes, strongly recommended. A password manager (Bitwarden, 1Password, KeePassXC, or the one built into your browser) lets you use a unique 20+ character password for every site without remembering any of them. You only remember one strong master password. Every security expert agrees: password managers are the single biggest security upgrade most people can make.

    What is ToolDeck?

ToolDeck (tooldeck.online) is a free collection of browser-based tools for images, PDFs, video and developer work. Every tool runs on your device, so your files and passwords are never uploaded. No sign-up and no watermark.

Is this tool suitable for corporate use?

Yes. Because nothing is uploaded, no audit trail or copy exists outside your browser. Generate batches of passwords for teams, print them for onboarding, or paste them into your company password manager. No sign-up required, no hidden cost, no terms of use that grant rights over the output.

Your passwords never leave your device

Passwords are generated by your browser's own cryptographically secure random number generator. There is no server-side generation, no log, no analytics event capturing the values. If you close the tab, they are gone, there is nothing on our side to leak. This is the only correct way for a password generator to work. Read how we keep it private.
