Questions people ask
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Watermarks are drawn in your browser using pdf-lib. Your files never leave your device, so we cannot see them even if we wanted to.
Is it really 100% secure?
Yes. There is no upload step, no server processing, no temporary storage. Open your browser network tab while you use the tool and you will not see your PDF being sent anywhere.
Does watermarking reduce the quality of my PDF?
No. We draw text on top of the existing pages. Text, images and layout are preserved exactly as they were.
Can I choose the watermark color?
Yes. There are presets for gray, red, blue and green, plus a custom color picker.
What is a tiled watermark?
The watermark text is repeated across the whole page in a grid. This makes it much harder to remove in an image editor, and it makes any screenshot obviously marked.
Can I watermark only some pages?
Not in this version. All pages are watermarked. Page-range selection is on our roadmap.
Does it strip PDF text or forms?
No. We only add content on top. Text stays selectable and any existing form fields remain in place.
Is there a file size limit?
No. iLovePDF caps free users at 5MB. We impose no limit. The practical limit is your device memory.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android both work. No app needed.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has cached pdf-lib, you can switch off WiFi and watermark PDFs locally.
Can I use special characters in the watermark?
Yes, but we use the built-in Helvetica font which supports standard ASCII and most European characters. Very rare symbols may not render.
Can I remove a watermark I added?
Not with this tool. Use the original PDF. Always keep a clean copy before watermarking.
