Questions people ask
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Every page is rendered to a JPG entirely in your browser using pdfjs-dist. Your PDF never leaves your device, we cannot see it even if we wanted to.
Is it really 100% secure?
Yes. There is no upload step, no server processing, no temporary storage. Open your browser network tab while you convert, you will not see your PDF being sent anywhere.
What DPI should I choose?
Screen (96 DPI) for web and chat, Recommended (150 DPI) for email and uploads, Print (300 DPI) for printing or archival quality. Higher DPI means larger files.
How much smaller are JPGs than PDFs?
JPG of a scanned page is often smaller than the PDF because we re-encode at the chosen quality. A text-only PDF may actually produce larger JPGs: the PDF stores text efficiently as vectors, while JPGs render it as pixels.
Can I convert only some pages?
Not in this version, all pages convert. You can select and download individual pages from the results, though. Page-range selection is on our roadmap.
Is there a file size limit?
No. iLovePDF caps free users at 5MB. We impose no limit, the practical limit is your device memory.
Does the JPG preserve text?
No. JPG is a raster format, so text becomes pixels and cannot be selected or searched. If you need to copy text, use PDF to Word instead.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android both work. No app needed.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has cached pdfjs, you can switch off WiFi and convert PDFs locally.
Can I convert password-protected PDFs?
Not yet. Unlock the PDF first with our Unlock PDF tool, then convert.
What quality setting should I use?
90% is invisible for most content. Use lower only if you need to reduce file size further for email or upload limits.
Can I convert multiple PDFs at once?
Not in this version, one PDF at a time. Batch mode is on our roadmap.
